Winter Sports Trademarks - Spring 2017 Edition

Dateline: Mammoth Mountain, Mammoth Lakes, Calif., April 28 - May 1st, 2017...

Friday, April 28th:

Still heaps of snow remaining at Mammoth Mountain...

Below, DA KINE® gloves, GRENADE® goggles, and a BERN® helmet share the table with a donut and hot chocolate...

Below, a pair of ROSSIGNOL® skis...

Below, on the gondola to the top, with a pair of ARMADA® skis in the rack...

#NoStairs to the snow!...  For those familiar with the top of Mammoth Mountain, there is a set of stairs right where this skier is walking on snow that exceeds 20 steps down to terra firma!...

Saturday, April 29th:

Chair #3 below...

Arriving at the top of Mammoth Mountain at 11,053 feet...

This sign below at the top of Mammoth reaches approximately 20 feet off the ground!...

Snowboards and skis in a rack outside the upper deck at Main Lodge... So much snow remains that guests can still walk right onto this 3rd floor deck from the snow!...  Snowboards and skis are sporting goods, of course, and are categorized in International Class #28 when it comes to registering your trademark with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Another trip to the top on the gondola with a pair of DYNASTAR® skis in the rack...

Back in the town of Mammoth Lakes, I noticed that the Mammoth Lakes Fire Dept. crew was in the shopping center getting a slice of pizza...

Below, lots of #stickers adorn the back of a late model Toyota FJ Cruiser cruising up Main St. late in the afternoon in Mammoth Lakes... Stickers can be registered as trademarks with the USPTO.  Vehicle trademarks are definitely registered with the USPTO by car manufacturers and this, of course, includes, TOYOTA®, which is certainly a famous trademark.

Sunday, April 30th:

Above and below, two shots of a well stickered YAKIMA® roof storage case which sits on a YAKIMA® roof rack and which probably has either or both skis and snowboards tucked and locked away inside...

Telephoto shot below of a Mammoth Mountain snowcat grooming the run below the top of Chair #5 a few minutes before the mountain opens for business...

Below, a snowboarder and a skier waiting in line for the mountain to open just a few minutes shy of 8:30 a.m....  That is a RIDE® Yukon snowboard, at left, and a pair of HEAD® skis, at right...

Back at the top of Mammoth, below, skiers and snowboarders prepare to launch themselves down the slopes...

Chair #3 below looking absolutely breathtaking!...

Late afternoon view from the outdoor patio at Mammoth Rock N Bowl of the Sherwin Range...

Monday, May 1st (aka, #MayDay2017):

Last day of skiing this trip... and then it's back on the road to L.A...

Below, famed ski run, the Cornice, below at center top of frame...

Below, McCoy Station (pka, Mid Chalet) where skiers and boarders can grab the gondola for the second half of the trip that takes you to the top...

Below, the view from the gondola including Chair #3 at the top of frame...

A bit of wind was blowing at the top of Mammoth Mountain this morning so I engaged my GRENADE® hoodie and goggles, as well as my BERN® helmet and (can't remember the brand) face mask...

Below, Chair #23 is another route to the top of Mammoth Mountain...

Done with this ski trip, it's back on the road where we are about to pass a large container truck carrying LIBBY'S® fruits & vegetables... as we drive south on I395 between Big Pine and Independence, Calif... about an hour south of Mammoth Lakes...

Arriving in Lone Pine, Calif., we spot the famed FROSTY CHALET burger joint that is only open seasonally, starting in the spring and closing before winter...

Lone Pine is a cool little town that is also the gateway to Mt. Whitney...

No idea is JAKE'S SALOON is registered as a Federal service mark or State of Calif. service mark registration for that matter, but I am informed that it is a famous watering hole nevertheless...

Telephoto shot of Mt. Langley which is adjacent to Mt. Whitney...

Further on down the road, we come upon a FedEx® Ground container truck heading southbound on the I395...

Back in the City of Angeles, in the San Fernando Valley, on the soutbound I405, we notice another large freight truck bearing the TARGET® trademark and service mark...

On the mountain or on the road, trademarks are all around us.  Brand savvy entrepreneurs, company executives and their in house legal staff and/or outside trademark counsel each understand the value of maximizing the value of their trademark portfolios.
